This Side of Tomorrow

I was the contender,
up on the leaderboard.
always running faster
chasing my reward.
"Make the quota," "get the bonus,"
"winners always win"
Profiting in empty coin
while hollowed out within

Before I return,
before I go back,

Adventure and romance
